Eryn Non Dae., a French band based in Toulouse have made dark, ambient and complex metal their signature sound.
Style
Eryn Non Dae. bring an avant-garde and experimental outlook to the metal scene. The band build metallic and oppressive sounds using aggressive vocals, ground-breaking and progressive rhythms and colossal rhythm guitars. Bewildering lead guitars bring disquiet to their dramatic, dissonant and apocalyptic repertoire.
Line-up
The band was formed in 2001. The original singer, Jérôme Rodrigues, parted company with the group in 2003 leaving them to continue as a purely instrumental ensemble. In 2004 they joined forces with singer Mathieu B. Nogues, and in 2005 bassist Mickaël André (Ethersens, Nojia, Zubrowska) replaced Julien Laporte.
Band name
Eryn Non Dae.'s first recording was released under the name END, but when they signed their first record deal the decision was taken to record under the name Eryn Non Dae. to avoid being confused with other bands.
Concerts
Eryn Non Dae. have performed in Europe alongside metal greats such as Gojira, Pelican, Jenx, The Ocean, Black Bomb A, Sleepers and Trigger the Bloodshed. They played the 2007 Hellfest, 2009, Braccara Fest, 2010 Euroblast, 2010 Nao Noise Fest and the 2011 Impetus Fest...
The Never-Ending Whirl Of Confusion (2005) – EP
The band's sound was first brought to life in their self-produced four-track EP The Never-ending Whirl of Confusion (2005), produced by Mobo and the band, released under the name END. It was critically acclaimed by the French press, namely Rock Hard magazine, whose sampler CD featured the track Beyond the Senses.
Hydra Lernaïa (2009- Metal Blade Records) – first album
Eryn Non Dae. was signed by Metal Blade in 2009, leading to the release of their first album,
Hydra Lernaïa, recorded at Conkrete Studios in Bordeaux. Hydra Lernaïa, whilst remaining dark and oppressive, explores a broad spectrum of feelings. Each of the nine tracks concerns itself with one shade of emotion. Here one sees great development of Eryn Non Dae.’s music from Never-Ending Whirl Of Confusion. On Hydra Lernaïa, rhythmic complexity and atmospheric guitar work are accentuated. Witness, for example, Pure.
Meliora (2012- M&O Office) – second album
Once again recorded by Mobo (Conkrete Studios), Eryn Non Dae. show there is no limit to their imagination as they continue to push the boundaries of their characteristic textures and rhythms.
Moreover, they add new colours to the palette with greater emphasis on melody and tonal texture.
Much attention is given to preserving the dynamics of the music during recording allowing us to hear more of the inner workings of the music. A sound richer and brighter yet losing nothing of the post-apocalyptic power of the earlier album.
